The brain works like a muscle. It becomesstronger through targeted effort. In her research, Dweck shows that teachers who are convinced of this and also express this belief against students, motivate these students to make an effort much more than teachers who assume that talent is decisive. The differences in student performance as a result of this different belief of a teacher amount to more than 40 percent. Students must understand that focused practice leads to achievement and that disappointments are part of that path.
