Dozens of environmentalists storm a number of rice paddies in southeastern Luzon, the largest island in the Philippines. In August 2013, they kick the nearly full-grown rice plants flat or pull them out of the ground and thus destroy the harvest. The fields are owned by the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), an Asian nonprofit research organization whose mission is to reduce poverty and hunger in the world.
